Thursday Thought: Identified with Christ

Your status as a Christian - bestowed on you when God created faith - is an exalted status.  Jesus promised his disciples: "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him," (Jn 14:23).

According to this promise, God enters into a very close union with his Christians.  He dwells in them, directing their thoughts and desires.  On Judgment Day Christ will declare: "Whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Mt 25:40).  When Paul persecuted the Christians, Jesus startled him with the question: "Why do you persecute me?(Ac 9:4).

In this way, heaven is foreshadowed: In a world of sin, God comes to you and makes his home with you.  When God takes you out of this world, he will bring you to himself that you may have your home with him.  Thanks be to God!
